Completing her Bachelors in Music in 2006, Joanna has worked steadily as a freelance musician/composer for the past two years. She has played music for Contemporary and Modern Dance classes at Simon Fraser University - inspired by her mentor there, Albert St. Albert - for CADA, Ballet BC, EDAM, Harbour Dance and at the Shadbolt Center. She has collaborated with choreographers such as Desiree Dunbar, Vanessa Mayrand and 30 Toes, appearing in Festivals and Series such as "Fling", 12 Minutes Max, New Tracks Festival, The Chocolate Festival and Bloom. As a part of various musical groups - including Lily Come Down, Joanna Chapman-Smith, Women in the Round and T. Nile - Joanna has toured across Canada and played numerous Folk Festivals, as well as releasing independently and appearing on a number of recordings. Joanna has also taught privately and stepped into the role of Musical Director for projects such as the Indonesian Consulate's Gamelan Ensemble and for productions like Fugue Free Theatre's "Out Like Flynn" in which she was also eventually cast as one of the principle actors. Joanna's instruments include: Voice, Clarinet, Piano, Guitar, Percussion, Lapsteel, Mandolin, Gamelan, Penny Whistle, Flute, Saxaphone, and accordion.
